The Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act requires that all workplaces with more than 20 employees have two Certified Health and Safety Committee Members; one representing the workers and the other representing management. This course is the first step in the process of becoming “Certified” by the WSIB. Participants are required to pass a written test at the end of the course.
An effective Joint Health and Safety Committee is essential for the provision of a healthy and safe workplace. A committee works most effectively when its role is clearly defined and accepted. Committee members, their employer, other managers and workers must, first of all, understand why the Joint Health and Safety Committee is important. Training of your members is critical to establishing an effective committee.
Once the JHSC members have successfully completed ‘Basic Certification Training’, they are required to fulfill the requirements of ‘Part 2 - Specific to Manufacturing Workplaces’. This involves performing a risk assessment to ensure proper RECOGNITION, of hazards in the workplace. Training is required in properly assessing those hazards and implementing adequate controls. Completion of both Level 1 & 2 courses are required to finalize certification for all Ontario workplaces of 20 or more employees. This interactive course is a necessary component for Joint Health & Safety Committee members and brings the internal responsibility system into practice. Relevant to any medium or large workplace, this course contains the most current legislation.
